A precise diameter for a secure grip
Barbell training demands a careful balance between axial stiffness and feel in the palm. We turn our barbells from cold-drawn mild steel, maintaining strict tolerances on the 28 mm gripping shaft. This classic dimension matches the anatomy of a closed hand, supporting a firm thumb lock without placing unnecessary strain on the forearm flexor tendons.
Inspections before leaving the lathe
Each bar is placed on our inspection surface plate to verify alignment before the ends are chamfered:
- Straightness check: measured with a dial indicator to eliminate any runout exceeding 0,3 mm.
- Non-aggressive finish: gentle longitudinal sanding that removes scratches without slipping under sweat.
- Material traceability: each steel batch comes from European cold-drawers certified for consistent elasticity.
Long-term mechanical benefits
Non-plated steel preserves its original microstructure. Decorative coatings tend to flake off under the pressure of collars, creating sharp edges. Our mild steel absorbs vibrations, develops an even patina over time, and conceals no structural flaws.
