Grip through concentric pressure
During a rhythmic repetition, the inertia of the plates generates lateral forces that try to push the weights outward. We machine our collars from solid steel sections, equipped with a butterfly thumbscrew. This purely mechanical clamping applies direct pressure to the mild steel without crushing it, ensuring your plates stay firmly locked to the sleeve.
Safety precautions
Proper locking requires following a few simple rules before starting your set:
- Flush fit: slide the first plate firmly against the inner stop ring of the bar.
- Moderate yet firm tightening: turn the butterfly screw until contact, then give an extra quarter turn without using a lever.
- Visual check: verify there is no cast-iron dust between the collar and the last plate.
Why avoid thin spring collars
Thin wire spring collars tend to lose their initial tension after being opened a few dozen times. Losing their clamping force, they slide several centimeters under dynamic racking impacts, throwing off the symmetry of your grip.
